A Rare and Spectacular Show is Scheduled At Waikiki's Beach Walk Na Mele No Na Pua "Music for the Generations"

Connection's and Hawaii's Own Legend of Jazz... Jimmy Borges will be performing at the Kama'aina Concert Series. This is a chance to witness the talent of some of Hawaii's Musical Legends in Person at this Legacy musical series. Staring Hawaii's most respected vocal jazz performer Jimmy Borges along with alto saxophone player Gabe Baltazar and jazz musician Betty Loo Taylor. This is a rare opportunity to experience the talent, elegance and beauty of several of Hawaii's best classic musicians with a flair to present to their audience a touch of yesteryear, yesterday along with today.

Na Mele No Na Pua presents a Bi-monthly concert series at the Waikiki Beach Walk Plaza Stage. This free program features popular island musicians and groups, up-and-coming local performers, hula halau, and more - all showcasing the diverse talent that can be found in our island home.

Jimmy Borges is one of one of Hawaii’s most respected vocal jazz performers. For more than four decades, Borges has been singing songs from pop to jazz to the great contemporary composers and, most recently, tribute concerts to the music of Frank Sinatra. Borges continues to woo audiences with his smooth voice, seamless transitions, clever phrasings and modest persona.

Gaba Baltazar is recognized as one of the world’s great alto saxophone players. He gained fame as a featured soloist with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, with whom he recorded 18 albums. He also recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Cannonball Adderly, Howard Rumsey’s Lighthouse All-Stars, James Moody and the Saxophone Stars, and the Oliver Nelson Orchestra. His recorded version of “Stairway to the Stars” is considered by many critics to be the definitive interpretation of that jazz standard. Baltazar has performed with Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Jerry Lewis, Don Ho, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Martin Denny. He served as Royal Hawaiian Band deputy director for 17 years.

Betty Loo Taylor is a veteran jazz pianist known as Hawaii’s first lady of jazz. The Na Hoku Hanahano Award winner’s (Hawaii Grammy Awards) legendary musical skills are detailed in the documentary film, “They Call Her Lady Fingers: The Betty Loo Taylor Story.”
