FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Honolulu, HI) – The Mākaha Sons, Hawaiiʻs premier traditional Hawaiian music group, will hold their annual “Take a Walk in the Country” signature concert on August 22, 2009, at the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center grounds, from 11am to 5pm. Celebrating 33 years of perpetuating Hawaiian music and dance, and as a “thank you” to their fans, this yearʻs event will be free to public, and will focus on providing entertainment for the whole family. Food vendors will offer delicious local fare, there will be booths with Hawaiian crafts and books, and a “keiki village” with games and rides.
A full day of top-notch entertainment is scheduled, many of whom have performed at previous “Take a Walk in the Country” concerts: Sean Na‘auao, Kaukahi, Del Beazley, the DeLima ‘ohana, Halau Hula ‘o Hokulani, Makana, Pacific Street, and the Abrigo ‘ohana. The Mākaha Sons and Kealo Koko will close the show, along with a special performance by Pomaika‘i Lyman. There will also be many surprises in store, keeping with the “Take a Walk in the Country” tradition.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann said, “We’re absolutely delighted that the Makaha Sons have chosen the Fasi Civic Center grounds for this mahalo concert. These grounds will provide a perfect venue for one of our most beloved and talented musical groups, and I know the concert will be a very well-attended showcase for some of the best musical entertainment in the islands.”
The Mākaha Sons have been performing together since 1976. Their lush harmonies, distinctive musical arrangements, and sparkling stage personalities have made them Hawaiiʻs favorite entertainers for over three decades.
This event is co-sponsored by FullOn Holdings Inc. and the City & County of Honolulu.
