Sid James plays Sid Abbott - Mr Average Married Man. A representative for a stationery firm. Sid's interest in life are the three C's: Chelsea, Courage bitter and Crumpet, and not necessarily in that order. In common with most married men, however, he finds these ambitions constantly thwarted by his wife, son and daughter, also not necessarily in that order. Sid likes to think he is with it, but in actual fact, he would not know it if he saw it.
Diana Coupland plays his attractive, sensible, level-headed wife. Sally Geeson is his 16-year old daughter, Sally. She's in her last year at Gramm

Born Sidney Joel Cohen, in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Sid was married to first wife Berthe Sadie Delmont, second wife Meg Williams with a daughter Reine, and third wife Valerie Ashton (one son and one daughter)
Sid is the father of Steve James, the musician who appeared on Fortran 5's debut album "Blues", in October 1991. His daughter, Sue James is a children's TV Producer.
His first major comedy was The Lavender Hill Mob, with Alfie Bass he made up the bullion robbery gang headed by Alec Guinness and Stanley Holloway. In the same year he also appeared in Lady Godiva Rides Agai
